Rising operating costs continue to place significant pressure on British Columbia’s hotel sector, directly affecting long-term viability, reinvestment, and competitiveness. Increases in property taxes, wages, mandated sick-day policies, energy costs, insurance premiums, and broader inflation have collectively reduced earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
These pressures remain among the most critical challenges facing accommodators across the province. In response, the BCHA continues to advocate for policy solutions that address structural cost drivers, while supporting members through programs and partnerships designed to help protect margins and manage operating expenses.
This work focuses on reducing financial strain, improving cost certainty, and ensuring hotels can continue to invest in their properties, people, and communities.
