Private sector employers will be required to publicly post reports on their gender pay gap and adopt other changes under pay transparency legislation introduced today by the Honourable Katrine Conroy, Minister of Finance. As of Nov.1 this year, all employers will be required to include wage or salary ranges on all publicly advertised jobs.
As soon as the legislation is in force, employers will be banned from asking prospective employees for pay history information or punishing employees who disclose how much they make to co-workers or potential job applicants.
The publication of reports on gender pay gap will be phased in on Nov. 1 over the coming years – in 2023 for government and Crown corporations with more than 1,000 employees, in 2024 for all employers with more than 1,000 workers, in 2025 for those with 300 or more employers, and in 2026 for those with 50 employees or more.
